Spent this week's meeting getting ready to present at the TLT Symposium
  • Stuart is unable to attend so we are restructuring our presentation and working via Google Doc this week on slides.
  • We also asked Jeanette Novakovich to participate in the presentation so that interested parties will get a first-hand account of the project from the view of an instructor.
  • We came up with a list of talking points that we are creating our slides from. Also picked out the instructor pages we'd like to showcase and are working on selecting student examples.

Had instructor meeting on Tuesday
  • Asked instructors for top two submissions for each assignment so far. We'll use these for the English 202 Project page as samples.
  • Added the pilot instructor names/emails to the contact page per Stuart's request.
  • Discussed how to grade the Internet Resource Guide assignment.

Talked about the next assignment (Instruction Set)
  • There was some question as to how the online format would benefit this assignment. What we suggested was that along with screen shots that have been used in the past, students can now link out to additional diagrams, videos, etc. Students could even create their own short video and embed.

Grading/Rubrics
  • The textbook has a checklist at the end of each chapter that can be used as a start for grading.
  • I also asked the instructors to provide me with any grading rubrics they've created/used for the course so far.

Matt and I spent our time this week writing up the English 202 project for the EDUCAUSE submission.
  • While I've since revised the submission (cut in half so that Millet could use half for Digital Commons), the work was perfect for the new English 202 project site "Project at a Glance" section.

Set up instructor and student interviews for TLT Symposium 2009 promo video.
  • Interviews taking place on Monday afternoon

Had instructor meeting to hear about Job Application Package assignment (how it went), and discuss next assignment (Internet Resource Guide).
  • Some instructors scrapped quizzes and added a "blog maintenance" portion to the overall grading. This encourages the students to keep things up to date and looking nice.
  • Instructors say this year the teaching has been more scattered (having to teach the platform and not just English) but much more rich than the way the course was previously offered.
  • Instructors like the blog entries they are having their students do weekly as reflection. One even asked her students for advise on creating the rubric. This lead to very insightful comments from the students.
  • Suggestion of making/maintaining the blog as one of the main assignments for 15-20% of final grade
