Today I checked out the iPads to the students in my 202c course. We briefly went through what each part was (the iPad, the buttons it has, the keyboard, the USB cord) and the four things I want them to do by Thursday: 1) get their iPad going and synced to iTunes; 2) Set up a security password; 3) set up the wireless for campus; and 4) set up their SugarSync account on their home computer (which is necessary to use the app).
Students seemed excited, and had only a few questions, mainly about syncing to iTunes. On Thursday we're going to spend class time downloading apps, downloading the textbook and showing them a few navigational tips, using SugarSync to download the planning worksheet for their rhetorical analysis, using Pages to type in it, and a few other things. I've already had students responding to my emails from their iPads, so a few have already set up their email on the iPad (less than 2 hours after class ended). A few also brought their laptops to class to set up their iPads right away, which is exciting.
We took a few pictures of the day, and I'll post those as soon as I have consent from students to share images of them. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
